Hack´n´Go

A 2D puzzle game with a unique hacking mechanic, that allows the player to change the rules of the game, in order to break out of prison, while hopefully not breaking the entire world.

About this project

This game was created in Unity by two friends and myself during the AI and Games Game Jam Breaking the Rules in 2021 and was updated in the weeks after.

It was also nominated to the Top 5 finals of the Life Pitch of Austrian Games 2021 in the prototypes category. There, I had the privilege of pitching our game idea in front of a jury and an online audience.

My contributions

It was also my responsibility to assemble the created logic and assets from our team to working and finished levels in Unity, while making sure the player pathing and puzzles worked through repeated play testing and reiterating.

At the finals of the Live Pitch of Austrian Games 2021, I pitched the game to the jury and audience and held a Q&A session afterwards. The received feedback and insights were extremly valuable and really helped me grow as a designer. My contributions specifically were designing the core gameplay idea with my team, as well as the puzzles and levels for the game. Because of the unique hacking feature of the game, setting up player paths and balancing the puzzles was very challenging and my sketches became increasingly difficult for me to keep organized. This was definitely an important take-away for me in this project: To keep my sketches as clean as possible!
